HAMARA Healthy Living Centre is a project which is aiming to provide a purpose-built facility for the people of Leeds 11. It will offer a variety of services to disadvantaged members of the community.

HAMARA means "OURS" reflecting the local community involvment in the planning and developing of the project. Led by the South Leeds Elderly and Community Group (SLECG), HAMARA is part of the FAITH TOGETHER IN LEEDS 11 Project. This is a unique grassroots partnership of churches, mosques and community-based organisations working together to develop a Healthy Living Centre and a Parents Resource Centre to serve and meet the needs of the ethnic minority and wider community.

Over 17,000 people reside within the catchment area, with high unemployment, low educational attainment and poor health all being major issues facing the community. The centre will be a major resource for tackling these problems, it will provide the community with a wide range of services in a religiously and culturally sensitive manner.
